passed away suddenly
at St. Mary’s Medical Center
on Wednesday, May 28, 2008.
He was born in
Sevierville, Tennessee,
and was a member
of Inskip United Methodist Church.
He is a
WW II veteran, retired educator,
and American history teacher
at Powell High School,
Principal of 24 years
at Farragut High School,
and a personnel
supervisor for
Knox County Schools.
He is a
graduate of
Lincoln Memorial University
and did additional
study at
Vanderbilt University.
He earned a Masters
Degree in History
at The University
of Tennessee,
plus additional graduate study
at UT
in administration
and supervision.
Mr. Bellamy was
inducted into the Literary
Hall of Fame
at Lincoln Memorial University
in 1982. His publications include: “ The Political Career of Landon Carter Haynes,” “ East Tennessee Historical Society’s Publication,” “Creative Teaching at Powell High School,” “ The Tennessee Teacher,” “ Farragut” An Encyclopedia of East Tennessee. Mr. Bellamy was a well known speaker in churches in the area, President of Holston conference United Methodist Men 2000-20004 and a long-time teacher for the Fellowship Sunday School Class at Inskip United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer guide for Blount Mansion and the President of the Knox County Teachers Federal Credit Union. He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Thomas and Minnie (Deakins) Bellamy. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Anna (Finchum) Bellamy; sisters, Dr. Nelle Bellamy, Betty Neeley; sister-in-law and her spouse, Patsy and Oak Moore; brother-in-law and his spouse, Bill and Darlene Finchum; God Daughter, Melanie Kennedy; nieces, Laura Farmer, Pam Luketic; nephew, Johnny Moore; great nieces, Emily Moore, Olivia Moore, Pippa Farmer; great nephew, Hayden Farmer and a host of friends. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary’s for their loving care especially Dr. Gerald Mancebo, and a There will be a celebration of life service at Inskip United Methodist Church Sunday at 4:00 pm, Dr. David Lewis, Rev. Cable Trent, and Rev. Rick Carr officiating. Active pallbearers will be Johnny Moore, Bob Dagley, Chan Wilbourn, Bill Parker, Andy Carr, John Rives, and Danny Bryant. Honorary pallbearers will be the Board Members of the Knox County Teachers Federal Credit Union: John McCloud, Roy Mullins, Roger Underwood, Bob Huff, Edythe McNabb, and Janice Walker. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Inskip United Methodist Church or your favorite charity. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 am Monday at Woodhaven Cemetery on Edgemore Rd, Claxton for an 11:00 am graveside service. Family will receive Landon Carter Haynes declared in Knoxville, Tennessee, on January 2, 1861, that Tennessee should abandon the Union for the Confederacy because she was “ Bound to the South by identity of institutions; bound to the South by soil and productions; bound to the South by reciprocal interests, bound to the South by the lines of her latitude; bound to the South by eternal laws of nature and God; bound to the South by the great rivers that pour their floods into the Gulf of Mexico and give her an easy transit to the consumers and her products through the world; let her feel that her union with the Southern States . . . is natural and inseparable, and the unalterable condition of her present and future safety, prosperity, and independence.” James W.
