The Genesis of Conflict between States: “erupted over the question of regulation of commerce.” May 10, 1860, The Morrill Tariff Bill was passed by the U. S. Congress. The Excellent Book: Blood Money, the CIVIL WAR and the FEDERAL RESERVE, by John Remington Graham, explains the financial influence which promoted agitation: “ to the point at which people from the two sections could joyfully kill each other.” Uncle Tom’s Cabin received considerable funding to incite hatred, civil conflict, and political turmoil. Examples of this consistently funded campaign to remove Southern political opposition are: Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 and Dred Scott controversy. Arouse hatred against unregenerate Aristocrats, and patriotic frenzy will demand Federal Government initiative. Slavery was a decoy issue to divide the Democrat political majority. Alexander Hamilton attempted to suppress, and tax the traitorous turpitude of obstreporous farmers. Preserve the Union! Federal government regulation and taxation— transform Whiskey Distilling and Slavery, into patriotic professions. Federal tax increases were desired by Whigs and Republicans. The Morrill Tariff would Transcontinental turpitude was conceived by Daniel Drew for his disciples— New York Common Council and Albany legislature. Cornelius Vanderbilt dominated the obstacles of nature and resisted Government tyranny. James J. Hill avoided government subsidies. The Great Northern Railroad was a superior quality achievement— without scandal. A Transcontinental Railroad had been proposed between Chicago — San Francisco. Southern states wanted a shorter route from New Orleans — through Texas and the Gila Valley to San Diego. Stephen Douglas was encouraged to support the route from Chicago. The Ordeal of The Union, by Allan Nevins.] Stephen Douglas worked to legislate slavery in the territories to placate Southern opposition to the Chicago route. This political deal achieved the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. The inevitable result was the 1855 Civil War in the Kansas territory. (Blood Money page 32.) The Kansas-Nebraska concession was worthless; and the Dred Scott decision opened all the territories to slavery. The Natural Limits of Slavery Expansion, by Charles W. Ramsdell, explains why there were only seventeen SLAVES in ALL the Federal territories in 1860. (Blood Money page 23.) Three million SLAVES were in Southern states. Why were Southern Democrats motivated to political desperation — regarding SLAVERY in the territories? Politics of Slavery. South Carolina hosted the National Convention for Democrats in Charleston. Southern delegates considered Douglas to be a swindler, and fifty-seven ballots for his nomination were defeated. (Blood Money page 40.) Robert Barnwell Rhett: A Fire Southern delegates demanded a platform of obligatory slavery in the territories. Several ballots failed to achieve two thirds agreement, and delegates adjourned. Remaining delegates nominated John Breckenridge, of Kentucky. (Charles A. Beard.) Delegates who withdrew, and reassembled at Baltimore, nominated Stephen Douglas. Democrats were divided. Abraham Lincoln was nominated at the Republican convention in Chicago. “ Besides pursuing the usual strategy of education, the Republicans resorted to parades and other spectacular features that had distinguished the log-cabin crusade of General Harrison’s year. Emulating the discretion of the Hero of Tippecanoe, Lincoln maintained a judicious silence at Springfield while his champions waged his battles for him, naturally tempering their orations to the requirements of diverse interests.” “A large fraction of Whigs and some fragments of the Know Nothing, or American Party, . . . tried to save the day by an appeal to lofty sentiments without definitions.” “ They held a convention at Baltimore and nominated John Bell, of Tennessee.” (Beard, The Causes Of The American Civil War, edited by Edwin C. Rozwenc, pages 104-108.) December 20, 1860, South Carolina seceded from the Union. Seven states seceded after the election of Abraham Lincoln. Fourteen Southern senators had resigned. Northern senators enacted the TARIFF increase— to 37 % to finance Political payoffs. “ The trouble began with That Tariff was submitted as a political strategy to elect Andrew Jackson in 1828. John Quincy Adams was expected to veto this TARIFF legislation. He would be denounced for refusing to protect American industries from foreign imports. John Adams signed the bill. Andrew Jackson was elected president, despite the failure of this strategy. Vice President John C. Calhoun was outraged by the tariff, and encouraged South Carolina to nullify this “Abomination” by secession from the Union. The book Blood Money— provides crucial details which are obscured or omitted in other historical accounts. The 1828 political strategy, and the zealotry for slavery are consistent with this quoted remark about South Carolina: “ Too large for an insane Asylum, Too small to be a separate country.” December 11, 1860, The Morrill Tariff Bill (H. R. 338) was discussed by the U. S. Senate. Southern States did not re-join the Union— to ratify the XIII Amendment and gain Constitutional protection of Slave ownership: the forbidden Apple. Southern Soldiers defended against Northern Aggression, and suffered 483,026 total casualties ( 289,000 died). Why? 389,753 Federal Soldiers died for their country.
