Meating of the Minds? Slave labor is a Contradiction of Individual choice: the Individual Right of voluntary, peaceful Federal Tariff Exploitation of agricultural trade was Identified with “Protection” of Northern industry. Northern industrialists promoted a change of the political regime to legislate the Morrill Atavistic Southerners exalted SLAVE LABOR: the motive power of ancient Egypt. They were blind to the hydraulic levity of James Watt’s steam engine— which flooded the world with prosperity. A Baby Boom (p. 621.) was procreated by the Industrial Revolution: European population doubled during that productive century. John C. Calhoun traveled on the opposite side of the road from harnessing the power of the Best Friend of Charleston. “ Servile labor disappeared because it could not stand the competition of free labor.” ( Human Action p. 630.) Heroic Steam Turbines exalted turbid torrents from Manchester collieries, and turbans were transported from the Bosphorus to Cairo, Illinois. Opportunistic Northerners aspired to stand on the shoulders of slave owners. Republicans emulated the demagoguery of Sparta by rewarding their supporters of 1860 with the spoils of conquest. Romans refined military plunder into rapacious taxation. Greeks and Jews were enslaved and vigorously taxed in “ The Union” of their Roman conquerors. The government of Abraham Lincoln levied a direct tax, similar to the Roman “general capitation tax on the Jewish people.” “ Since the officers of the revenue extended their unjust claim to many persons who were strangers to the blood or religion of the Jews, it was impossible that the Christians, who had so often sheltered themselves under the shade of the synagogue, should now escape this rapacious persecution.” “As a very numerous though declining party among the Christians still adhered to the law of Moses, their efforts to dissemble their Jewish origin were detected by the decisive test of circumcision.” (The Decline and Fall of The Roman Peaceful co-operation was not the original scheme for human relations. The priority of survival was achieved by annihilation or subjugation of neighbors, similar to the animal food chain. Slavery was an advance from the raids of primitive warriors— and pillage of weaker tribes. Slavery was made obsolete by the productive power of the Industrial Revolution. Survival is enhanced by REASON and Peaceful Textile machinery was introduced into North-East America, because Water power was available to operate the industrial machinery. Cotton production was increased in Southern regions, to supply these textile mills — and greatly rewarded. The market price for Slaves in the agricultural Southern regions was more persuasive than the rewards for encouraging Black workers to be more productive. Slaves were not encouraged, or allowed to buy their freedom. The cultural attitude of white workers would not tolerate equality of association, and competition with free Black workers. Virtue is a cultural attitude. Morality is survival oriented, and prevailed against emancipation of Slaves, or agreements to buy freedom with factory earnings. Three million slaves were more productive in the agricultural— Southern regions; usually valued at $1,000; and their census numbers increased political power of slave states in the U.S. Congress. Peaceful Co-operation was encouraged, but the productivity of REASON was segregated from primitive domination of Slave— muscle power. Black people were exiled from Northern “ Free ” states. Dull witted slave owners did not consider the absence of Northern desire to exploit slave labor? Slaves do not compete to exert their productive capabilities. Their achievements are not rewarded. Free Men for Better Job Performance. Charles A. Beard explained the advantage of slavery to achieve Southern political goals. ( The Causes Of The American Civil War, edited by Edwin C. Rozwenc, pages 98-108.) “ Five millions of ‘poor, outraged whites’ ” were in Southern states. What motivated these poor Southern whites to fight — “ to fill the ranks of the Confederate army and be the cannon-fodder.” Why did they ally with three hundred and forty-seven thousand slave-holders to oppose the Union Army? A Conversation With Carter Glass: “ Bankers and their myrmidons and hired pigwidgins always threaten a torrent of disasters. They think the time is always right to reform others and the time is always wrong to reform them. Furthermore, if Congress waits as bankers instruct and gives some new villainy time to take hold and become familiar, bankers then defend the practice as if it were a birthright of finance handed down to them from Justinian by way of the Medicis and Alexander Hamilton himself, with which it would be impious and disruptive for the government to interfere. In this fog of selfish rhetoric, all a poor member of Congress can do is keep a list of needed improvements and bide his time until a financial catastrophe gives him his chance, and then he must legislate at once or wait for the next debacle. This is a wasteful, unscientific process. It delays useful remedies until the banking system is racked with infection, and it Lost Articles of Confederation: “ How was life under the Articles of Confederation? ” “ Under the Articles, Congress had no power to tax or to erect trade barriers. If it needed revenue it had to petition the states. There was no separate executive branch.” “ What about the economies of the states? We can infer much from the fact that those who wanted to overthrow the Articles for a new constitution warned of coming economic turmoil if the central government were not fortified.” Foundation for Economic Education Jobs and Trade.
