Congratulations to RURAL METRO
Firetruck Repair Garage
for consistent and exceptional achievement! This is made
possible by
market price signals which guide a privately owned competitive business
that is highly motivated to earn profit. The Freedom Engine
(Firetruck)
presented by East Tennesseans to the New York City Fire Department
after Sept. 11, 2001, broke down months ago and has not been
repaired?
Farmer
Brown Explains:
New York City firemen and repairmen are heroic and capable,
[ IPSEITY.US ]
and are likely as energetic as the few Rural Metro professionals at
their
(firetruck) garage today - with only one truck to
repair. Rural Metro is not
limited by Government regulations or Bureaucracy. This
Emergency Service
Business has the advantage of freedom to choose the best means to do
the work
which serves the public - their business and jobs depend on
quality performance!
This is the difference between government or
business. Government is limited
by the constitution, legal statutes, and
bureaucratic regulations. Business power
is limited by competition of ability to perform work, and
satisfy buyers they serve.
Each business person can be encouraged to choose the best way to do the
work.
Profit and loss accounting measures the results of these
choices: to reward the best
managers and workers, and to limit the discretion of those
with less ability.
Buyers vote for the most satisfactory performance - with
each penny they spend
Competition with others who are eager to earn rewards by winning money
votes,
is the means of limiting the power of those with poor
judgement, skills, or effort.
Yet the New York City Fire Department is not placed into receivership
and the fire engines sold to competitors who can manage them
better. Why Not?
“Customers” are unable to stop funding the poorly managed Fire
Department
which fails to repair the Freedom Engine. Deadbeat
taxpayers suffer the “or else”
enforcement of revenue agents, policemen, jailers, judges, and are sent
“up the river”.
Those who are “serviced” by Government and don’t pay, are
sold down the river.
When your life depends on the Service –
Rural Metro
delivers!
Government–Business partnerships are encouraged to remedy this poor
performance,
and we are told: Government should be operated as a
business. Dictatorship is a
system of government without limits on discretion. Eminent
Domain power of
Government to develop land for profit (as a business) was used by TVA
- Tellico
lakefront property; and commercial development in New
London, Connecticut.
A classic example of Government–Business partnership is:
Sheriff and Bootlegger.
Bureaucratic limitation by rules is the means of managing those
activities which are
blind to profit signals - such as the jail (contrasted with
a hotel or restaurant).
Fire and Ambulance Emergency Services are not blind to market price
signals.
Rural Metro competes in the market - for
profit, without force or coercion.
Government has an exclusive legal monopoly of enforcement.
The Sheriff is limited
by Legal Statutes and bureaucratic regulations because market price
signals cannot
orient the work he and his deputies do.
Robbers and thugs use force for profit.
The “dog-eat-dog” battle for survival in the market does not kill or
loot the weak
but changes the leadership to put their labor and resources under
better managers.
Competition of Ability to serve allows buyers to control each
Business.
Competition of Ability to reward allows producers to control
buying.
"From Each according to Ability, To Each
according to Need."
is a seductive slogan which
enslaves producers to the "Needy".
Achievement and production are the result of choice. Private
Property protects
the needy by unleashing human reason to create values, and
defends the right of
productive workers to choose those who are deserving of their products.
Taxation to fund charitable grants is a violation of the right to own
the product(s)
of one's work. This is slavery by democratic cannibalism.

East Tennessee and the New York department have a
special link through the Freedom Engine, a fire truck
that was donated to the city by East Tennesseans after
the 2001 attacks. The campaign to raise funds for the truck
generated more than $969,000, mostly in small contributions
from more than 6,000 individuals across East Tennessee.
Former NYFD Capt. Stephen Damato expressed frustration Thursday:
"It's been out of service for at least
nine months," he said.

The "Freedom Engine" was returned to its station Friday Sept. 16.
The vehicle has been out of service
for approximately 14 months.
The company attempted to replace the truck's swivel from March 13
until Sept. 16. (six of the 14 months out of service.)
"First, it was the complexity of the part that broke," said
Scott Mintier,
chief executive officer of the truck's manufacturer, Seagrave
Fire Apparatus..
"It's not a simple thing. It's not like replacing the brakes on
your car."
